FOOD TIPS

• Green Vegetables should be high on your list, but, pass on the Iceberg Lettuce. It will fill you up, but has no nutritional value.
• Stick with Whole Grain pasta, cereals and breads. Forget white bread and other white flour products… too much starch with little benefit.
• Oats will dramatically lower your blood sugar, so always eat protein or fruit with it.
• Search for low-fat and low-carb Yogurts such as CarbMaster (Kroger brand). These have less sugar also.
• Substitute yogurt for milk when possible. The live bacteria is good for digestion.
• Avoid fast food restaurants if you are trying to lose weight. Most fast foods are extremely high in fat content! Stick with salad dishes and uncomplicated protein dishes in other restaurants.
• Limit your use of white potatoes. Substitute yummy yams or sweet potatoes when possible. They are less starchy and contain more nutrients.
• If you must fry foods, use Canola, Olive or other Vegetable Oils….or try Oven Fried. Corn flakes or whole grain and wheat bread crumbs can be used for breading.  Use these same oils in spray cans for sauting vegetables and cooking eggs.
* If you must use salt for seasoning, try sea salt.  Mrs. Dash Original or the store equivalent is my favorite seasonings.
